I have been captivated watching the Oyster Catchers there - and more recently the Sanderlings. I have been painting and printing the Sanderlings onto Ceramic Platters to exhibit in June 2015 at Oxton Secret Gardens. Here are some pictures of the results:- <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcRLIJTwL11C__tDPnLWzgzlSPcNrqwP3gWv48MkN3qXNJ_cIzbzrwMQNSozAfwC7YLlhzgGwNbq8cygNCdWJxJTy8VfPt335jMqancmVBHxYIm1ZtwaUCHwzlhScMt3ZYtwQ2LyQbXt0/s640/blogger-image--1267641177.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcRLIJTwL11C__tDPnLWzgzlSPcNrqwP3gWv48MkN3qXNJ_cIzbzrwMQNSozAfwC7YLlhzgGwNbq8cygNCdWJxJTy8VfPt335jMqancmVBHxYIm1ZtwaUCHwzlhScMt3ZYtwQ2LyQbXt0/s640/blogger-image--1267641177.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPDUQhOzf9wUj9oDLeyLe7rSyWsspPc5i2JQULPuTErL44NyC9-oQun5sfToKN7MDRXFuXJSK9q_w_rvEUMdc8VgawsC-HOrCh74CMHfsY-dmT8kkRkkMSW1G_KPIKMvq71WkXzn9-tPE/s640/blogger-image-1023534678.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPDUQhOzf9wUj9oDLeyLe7rSyWsspPc5i2JQULPuTErL44NyC9-oQun5sfToKN7MDRXFuXJSK9q_w_rvEUMdc8VgawsC-HOrCh74CMHfsY-dmT8kkRkkMSW1G_KPIKMvq71WkXzn9-tPE/s640/blogger-image-1023534678.jpg"></a></div><br></div></span>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-88102789115779489462014-11-23T02:12:00.001-08:002014-11-23T03:02:46.902-08:00Amelia's Magazine 10th Anniversary edition : That Which We Do NotUnderstand<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
This year I have been developing my printmaking practice and exhibiting my work further afield - this is exactly how I began a dialogue with Amelia Gregory the creator of Amelia's Magazine.</div>
<div>
<a href="http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/">http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/</a> I admire Amelia's determination, the the body of work she has created and her commitment to promoting the work emergent creative talent. Amelia was kind enough to feature my May 2014 exhibition at South Bank Print makers. I love to draw and look at beautiful design and Amelia's mission to print exquisite publications featuring original art and writing appeals so much to me. I was delighted to see the Illustration call for #TWWDNU and wanted to support the Kickstarter campaign and also submit an illustration to see if it might make the cut. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I often spend time drawing extraordinary objects in dimly lit galleries and museums - strange creatures capture my attention. The idea of all the skilled artisans from many centuries ago carving, weaving and drawing what could only be imagined animals and birds really appeals to me. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkbIEB2msoZUocjBabWcod0JYjz5X_FzECCOQAOxRQNlyWdd88N-nzH6PjtQOuAEyHYiaoQDw7qrOE0aQUVVRZy9HIfOTqppNCJpya2i_VkulOV967VfOi3sNrEWLgb97Wwc3er9brIRQ/s640/blogger-image--1960743990.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkbIEB2msoZUocjBabWcod0JYjz5X_FzECCOQAOxRQNlyWdd88N-nzH6PjtQOuAEyHYiaoQDw7qrOE0aQUVVRZy9HIfOTqppNCJpya2i_VkulOV967VfOi3sNrEWLgb97Wwc3er9brIRQ/s400/blogger-image--1960743990.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This little creature caught my eye so I sketched it in my Moleskine using pencil & Brushpen. She was scampering delicately along an antique Chinoiserie ceremonial banner chest, foraging for berries. She looked almost animated in the half light of the room. She delighted me and I can only imagine the effect she had on visitors in the 17th century. My final composition is produced on Bristol Board and is a hybrid technique using relief printmaking, Biro and Brushpen drawing. </div>

I am looking forward to seeing "That Which We Do Not Understand" when I get my postal delivery - I have secured my copy by backing the Kickstarter Campaign.<br />
<a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ameliagregory/amelias-magazine-gold-foil-artists-book-and-gold-l">https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ameliagregory/amelias-magazine-gold-foil-artists-book-and-gold-</a><br />
The campaign is still open and is so tantalisingly close to achieving £12,000.00 target and every little bit helps so please visit the page and make a pledge too if you can!<br />
<br />
There is a great deal of interest in the project and you can read more about it here :<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">using Twitter more https:<a href="https://twitter.com/Laurawestonart">//twitter.com/Laurawestonart</a> as a sort of mini blog </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">about my practice and interests (it fits in well with my lifestyle.)</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">My commercial creative practice was inspired by reading great blogs </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">- a source of stimuation and information. Blogs are a useful way to gain insight </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">and direction for your work </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">One of the best by far is http:<a href="http://fishinkblog.wordpress.com/">//fishinkblog.wordpress.com/</a></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">by Craig a textile designer / illustrator / photographer. Craig writes a truly </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">inspirational blog in which he shares interviews with a plethora of established </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">artists and designers alongside posts about his own creative life and work.
</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It was Craig who invited me to take part in the Around the world creative blog hop - he in turn was invited by Claire Leggett <a href="http://claireleggett.co.uk/">http://claireleggett.co.uk/</a></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">
The first question is "What am I working on?"</span></span><br />

The second question is "how does my work differ from others of its genre?"</span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am first and foremost a relief and now intaglio print maker - </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">My work is influenced by rich & ancient Japanese tradition of relief printmaking </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">without the use of a press - baren printmaking on washi paper. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I am fascinated by the texture of paper and avariciously horde & seek out </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">exquisite paper from places like Falkiners <a href="http://store.falkiners.com/store/">http://store.falkiners.com/store/</a>, </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">What gives my work its originality is that I use tiny personal visual diaries </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">that I draw in regularly - I document happenings in my life - </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">things I have seen recently like urban foxes, decorative door irons, </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">trees and cemetery hares! I also grew up leafing through wallpaper pattern </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">books in my dads painting and decorating shop.
Third question,"Why do I write/create what I do?"</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Honestly i really need to draw because it satisfies me. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have been a fractional university lecturer at Staffordshire University for </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">twenty years at - before that worked as an animation producer. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It's common to sacrifice creative practice because lecturing is such a full on job. I am fortunate that I can and I have deliberately chosen to work fractionally so that I can create my own work in free time - this has led to to self expression, self employment exhibition and collaboration and meeting some inspirational people on that journey like Craig : - I think these real world encounters make me more vibrant and relevant as an academic it also fulfills a desire I have to express myself creatively through drawing, printmaking and design.
Fourthly ,"How does my writing/illustration/creative process work?"</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Everything starts with a rushed and scrappy little doodle or thumbnail </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">in a tiny sketchbook often when I am out with family. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sometimes I have drawn on the back of an envelope or till receipt if that's all </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have in my bag. I draw things that I notice or strike me in my daily life </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">and then these sketches become the substance and raw material for my </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">printmaking and design. Most of my prints are made on my kitchen table and </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">sometimes if I'm lucky and can make the time in my schedule </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The Bluecoat Liverpool <a href="http://www.thebluecoat.org.uk/content/print-studios">http://www.thebluecoat.org.uk/content/print-studios</a> </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">and now Artichoke. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I have encountered some great designer/artist bloggers through my Twitter feed </span></span><br />

It was such a busy time and I realised that I hadn't drawn anything for ages. So last week I invested in a new Pentel Brush Pen and something called an A3 Bristol Board pad and set about re-drawing some of my significant works from 2013 using these and some Biro. It was relaxing after all that preparation.........<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguVJQAcZwC-UZSfsMyoPUyl26Ej1C-j9i39E_Sw73vft21XZX8OoxW-lqbjqCPTYuWfonzfFaWWii81MGlyVGPn6rEANFNCVEyN0Y9-ttkEyxTqAuB-x8nRf7t820yUX0E36vpmlsyrDk/s640/blogger-image-637444072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguVJQAcZwC-UZSfsMyoPUyl26Ej1C-j9i39E_Sw73vft21XZX8OoxW-lqbjqCPTYuWfonzfFaWWii81MGlyVGPn6rEANFNCVEyN0Y9-ttkEyxTqAuB-x8nRf7t820yUX0E36vpmlsyrDk/s640/blogger-image-637444072.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj07sdQwoPRCQVbZ6lvjM7RH2JWxdBmJ5375vUQIP-pazHmV0-AEfquA9niF_q-L8xTphGHrrgNcrxVzGZEHixyPhCpRiIzNAhD8Ne5OiL0m8rirweJNVsJhU1wb3lAHAVp36Viob-BUZo/s640/blogger-image--617020816.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj07sdQwoPRCQVbZ6lvjM7RH2JWxdBmJ5375vUQIP-pazHmV0-AEfquA9niF_q-L8xTphGHrrgNcrxVzGZEHixyPhCpRiIzNAhD8Ne5OiL0m8rirweJNVsJhU1wb3lAHAVp36Viob-BUZo/s640/blogger-image--617020816.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU4AELKeIImybhNEvkZjpFokTSshNk8fx3FbwUXX6Kufs5L8TQe3FXfHWtDm0gcthbHkLjrYmY64dbdvQZTP5woxz6mFwK1fPkbIdKNi9Ab1-GDKPVVXetqFBQRtpxp9QUdj-wPlCAZqM/s640/blogger-image-1594605689.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjU4AELKeIImybhNEvkZjpFokTSshNk8fx3FbwUXX6Kufs5L8TQe3FXfHWtDm0gcthbHkLjrYmY64dbdvQZTP5woxz6mFwK1fPkbIdKNi9Ab1-GDKPVVXetqFBQRtpxp9QUdj-wPlCAZqM/s640/blogger-image-1594605689.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgccS4n-zgSOn-bCtWQHhOH5MOKu0HJuIty01_j_eV4riCGpTqT0PXcCOZEQzSOdBY9bkQi5JvwDomeA_mrfYFad31wGHmWKQVlnvKXuo0so-a6Q126uw2yKBVSguaWDU-CTJMU4IAuvrI/s640/blogger-image--340375850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgccS4n-zgSOn-bCtWQHhOH5MOKu0HJuIty01_j_eV4riCGpTqT0PXcCOZEQzSOdBY9bkQi5JvwDomeA_mrfYFad31wGHmWKQVlnvKXuo0so-a6Q126uw2yKBVSguaWDU-CTJMU4IAuvrI/s640/blogger-image--340375850.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-80841017615108042972013-11-21T01:20:00.001-08:002013-11-21T01:20:11.783-08:00Postcard PacksI am in the kitchen making up postcard packs of my relief print designs - the preparation for winter arts events seems endless - thank goodness it will all be done and dusted by Sunday 8 December - want to get my life back! <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdLUzNH35B9xO9_W-BeISoCsIiJ0CK9NlNdxWpvGCcFdWN-gGtH2oClMBeThyphenhyphenV6SgJmvcYSXs443x1LlWMB_2BHv2wvn-o3ZQYn9XCnp68ZZNGeCkWY9EQgMWP6KOqKgYxWiTu8pPXz_U/s640/blogger-image-54421404.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdLUzNH35B9xO9_W-BeISoCsIiJ0CK9NlNdxWpvGCcFdWN-gGtH2oClMBeThyphenhyphenV6SgJmvcYSXs443x1LlWMB_2BHv2wvn-o3ZQYn9XCnp68ZZNGeCkWY9EQgMWP6KOqKgYxWiTu8pPXz_U/s640/blogger-image-54421404.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-80474812941360575092013-11-20T14:53:00.001-08:002013-11-20T14:53:56.692-08:00Drawing of a CraneYesterday we went on a drawing studio field trip to the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke on Trent. I took my small sketchbooks, brush pen, water soluble pencils and IPad. Places like these are just full of interesting stuff to draw so I did just that ( made a change from mount cutting! ) this is a drawing from a Kimono featuring a Crane design which I re- worked larger the next day to develop into a print. <br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhszQBXMnDO2KD8twjGqpKRZL2hxe3M52-F2iBzYgoJNqlNVibprCjr5cbi4vVcbNHZSOxXD7oQ3APq0LE5XjbLgQeRXzWNjvmhfdDCVPvBO685gfc5EMi-4ooMNV6by4LIm7WXPfazJPk/s640/blogger-image--987437710.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhszQBXMnDO2KD8twjGqpKRZL2hxe3M52-F2iBzYgoJNqlNVibprCjr5cbi4vVcbNHZSOxXD7oQ3APq0LE5XjbLgQeRXzWNjvmhfdDCVPvBO685gfc5EMi-4ooMNV6by4LIm7WXPfazJPk/s640/blogger-image--987437710.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJs5kFvlAW9Pk_YRsZuHiLlc3O3uPo9pni9peYrTibBpw8ideDB1H0708HACf2pqnYdYdOQ19tTYllkZirK0CaZamKfiPdcvcCqEDcA9m9hs8YOXkP3XeEYz86eTh67N3_gYGXAkwVbvg/s640/blogger-image-430245712.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJs5kFvlAW9Pk_YRsZuHiLlc3O3uPo9pni9peYrTibBpw8ideDB1H0708HACf2pqnYdYdOQ19tTYllkZirK0CaZamKfiPdcvcCqEDcA9m9hs8YOXkP3XeEYz86eTh67N3_gYGXAkwVbvg/s640/blogger-image-430245712.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhYfU-Pbraoixar2cd5pCNCd7sp6-TcJ7xW35pqHM7eKalrQnAXfbVfPO4qkQgjRCzMEqJWuRm8V8opwUoX5MxRIPMLXGtKVDcgIbpQBkP7V3HgdQRxcNaG6L1XF0uxrX6k4q9PAknHQU/s640/blogger-image--395235847.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhYfU-Pbraoixar2cd5pCNCd7sp6-TcJ7xW35pqHM7eKalrQnAXfbVfPO4qkQgjRCzMEqJWuRm8V8opwUoX5MxRIPMLXGtKVDcgIbpQBkP7V3HgdQRxcNaG6L1XF0uxrX6k4q9PAknHQU/s640/blogger-image--395235847.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-76839351194730066162013-11-10T13:45:00.001-08:002013-11-10T13:45:33.482-08:00framing a lot <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkSNvcSp49oCH8stBnuw2JPAkLU94tOU99gFC4P7OdbRHUZKoNIxb7WbPxeEUSf-XYsTKYVNcrdjWUD823oEEi_lZ9t7V1t7MIdJRmLGqT66kRDSrnJU6k6c5iVO6vRVedGzIV23SiFZ0/s640/blogger-image--1985553110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkSNvcSp49oCH8stBnuw2JPAkLU94tOU99gFC4P7OdbRHUZKoNIxb7WbPxeEUSf-XYsTKYVNcrdjWUD823oEEi_lZ9t7V1t7MIdJRmLGqT66kRDSrnJU6k6c5iVO6vRVedGzIV23SiFZ0/s640/blogger-image--1985553110.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-56634090445709279262013-11-09T10:00:00.001-08:002013-11-09T10:00:19.260-08:00Preparing for Oxton Art Fair<div><br></div>The kitchen table has been a hive of activity lately - I have been doing heaps of mount cutting and framing in preparation for a Christmas flurry of direct selling events. To keep costs down I will be using off the shelf frames as well as showing some pieces in bespoke frames. A theme in my work in 2013 has been to explore dry point etching techniques and apply metallic flakes to certain areas once the prints have dried here are a few examples that will be exhibited at Oxton Art Fair and St George's Hall <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-xVhamD11-K2sDEni0x7R7x68dqXe__-V7N1dhvRdeoXzC2IUWGrXRFcMsVrKYxGfByFyW5hWm3_RdxNohIjyjI3HI2vOpysceK2B8mCtPtr2dG50KDuQ-GcIojBT2udcTvqD3GG718I/s640/blogger-image--944304606.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-xVhamD11-K2sDEni0x7R7x68dqXe__-V7N1dhvRdeoXzC2IUWGrXRFcMsVrKYxGfByFyW5hWm3_RdxNohIjyjI3HI2vOpysceK2B8mCtPtr2dG50KDuQ-GcIojBT2udcTvqD3GG718I/s640/blogger-image--944304606.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1hC1fCsnLYUmT4GAVwvz2HYmnvKP7xuHy90CWEgWuOk5iV_c2Wgb2EgH8WhO4nBgBLif4qimuYN7mUDED3MDpemqQWXqvUFne8n03k5WQsQpiShQQKKfNmBVYf2QLviTg2FqL_sOA9Ho/s640/blogger-image-1468573023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1hC1fCsnLYUmT4GAVwvz2HYmnvKP7xuHy90CWEgWuOk5iV_c2Wgb2EgH8WhO4nBgBLif4qimuYN7mUDED3MDpemqQWXqvUFne8n03k5WQsQpiShQQKKfNmBVYf2QLviTg2FqL_sOA9Ho/s640/blogger-image-1468573023.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi-Lki_ob-2WKAm_XC5BN_mYbzjf7dtRpvX06V1UinYqmSGGuBfdzeR26U6685tCiEcAKCcdkptva5sdaG0Y2sFf71mtOSb-LUZEUB_NfTS9-A0jr6J-5WbTqL0Or3PtlmOsQ_dEF9V4s/s640/blogger-image-2079023441.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi-Lki_ob-2WKAm_XC5BN_mYbzjf7dtRpvX06V1UinYqmSGGuBfdzeR26U6685tCiEcAKCcdkptva5sdaG0Y2sFf71mtOSb-LUZEUB_NfTS9-A0jr6J-5WbTqL0Or3PtlmOsQ_dEF9V4s/s640/blogger-image-2079023441.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-20569934941267668592013-10-15T15:02:00.001-07:002013-10-18T03:02:53.780-07:00Preparations for MovemberOn the 12th November 2013 we will be staging a drawing event with students in Animation & the Faculty of Art and Creative Technologies. Its for "Movember" http://uk.movember.com/ and the aim will be to wear/grow moustaches, to do lots of Mo portrait drawings and to raise funds for Mens Health Organisations and Charities here is the flyer for the event and some practice mixed media portraits I have been trying out in my Moleskine sketch books. We have been inspired to do this by some of our talented Alumni: Rob Cureton http://www.orfulcomics.co.uk/ Malcolm Mole http://www.linkedin.com/pub/malcolm-mole/a/81/893?_mSplash=1 to name but two.......<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvQKgh7PaaeO3VOxJKnS_OK9RKzxrCwGsQkSY0fgO09CYkNC0vLEabtcXmgjJgk1KtO_KyaMgc89yiEqExh6zJMLu103hs8BG1HjVy7KeINgFO_nmU4DAt7zz18W030g0s5cJzbOdPCf4/s640/blogger-image-415893840.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvQKgh7PaaeO3VOxJKnS_OK9RKzxrCwGsQkSY0fgO09CYkNC0vLEabtcXmgjJgk1KtO_KyaMgc89yiEqExh6zJMLu103hs8BG1HjVy7KeINgFO_nmU4DAt7zz18W030g0s5cJzbOdPCf4/s640/blogger-image-415893840.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnExoBApJyFNYCSadBQXb5J5utQMhvlfg5Y91q7xP9DksEBvrjQFngTOwjF1lInR-rE6Uu97rULKa92UCTTNmeTVqAOfG9-OMmh2VK8QKuVXJcPO8-wEsuxgHshyJJVSm4mcJxKP-_tXI/s640/blogger-image--1205088460.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnExoBApJyFNYCSadBQXb5J5utQMhvlfg5Y91q7xP9DksEBvrjQFngTOwjF1lInR-rE6Uu97rULKa92UCTTNmeTVqAOfG9-OMmh2VK8QKuVXJcPO8-wEsuxgHshyJJVSm4mcJxKP-_tXI/s640/blogger-image--1205088460.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-57208546428101101142013-09-07T07:08:00.001-07:002013-09-07T07:08:20.821-07:00Works on Paper - Exhibition<div>Ove<span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.296875); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); ">r the summer I have spent most of my time running around after my Kids <span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(26, 26, 26, 0.292969); -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(175, 192, 227, 0.230469); -webkit-composition-frame-color: rgba(77, 128, 180, 0.230469); ">but I have found time to "disappear" into my printmaking and drawing too. First I applied PVA glue to the two colour print on Thai Three Flakes paper. I used a small soft brush to pick up the leaf and apply it to the area. Used a large soft brush to wipe of the excess. <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn3dXSIxD-F32Q0GDtTv1XyZVMsnUJmE7UGBN3uyzIPlTgU_hgQPauDwvN5z0APW7GO6CVHQniCLgAJcbSEPbrFOOOQN2y-3aEr0tdLme_fzE4lXpvcvKUkCZCW2b6MoZ5IMljt_crAwY/s640/blogger-image-1518767062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn3dXSIxD-F32Q0GDtTv1XyZVMsnUJmE7UGBN3uyzIPlTgU_hgQPauDwvN5z0APW7GO6CVHQniCLgAJcbSEPbrFOOOQN2y-3aEr0tdLme_fzE4lXpvcvKUkCZCW2b6MoZ5IMljt_crAwY/s640/blogger-image-1518767062.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-49177322362358104072013-08-05T12:06:00.001-07:002013-08-05T12:06:18.521-07:00Trelowarren OwlsBeen away on holiday for two weeks in Cornwall with very erratic Internet so neglected blogging but did plenty of drawing and framed up 10 prints for the up coming group show "works on paper" in Staacks Gallery West Kirby in September. worked on a new print on Thai Three Flakes Paper using foam stencil technique "Trelowarren Owls." <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-HGBhAzjqboLEQ2QvNDCTSvxKv2zT07JUy5B50Ygos6FzzcPV7jsLAVzGleE4PXf6Qwj1KvqA7HvoKzXfoDSPJRNJLuPmWl4sQYBLVJa8UrsyIBKqYnAeJmjLOIy3CifkNiCNRXlM1dA/s640/blogger-image-1626603965.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-HGBhAzjqboLEQ2QvNDCTSvxKv2zT07JUy5B50Ygos6FzzcPV7jsLAVzGleE4PXf6Qwj1KvqA7HvoKzXfoDSPJRNJLuPmWl4sQYBLVJa8UrsyIBKqYnAeJmjLOIy3CifkNiCNRXlM1dA/s640/blogger-image-1626603965.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVUdNdA7dWzeepiEAVlI-O884BTrM8_pBDfqkd4OKxy00LPCxSEIh3ivryOTAVQgtVS8QBgNe-XSE6t-tHmcPhnJHxEHnlp6IVT3sQKo-rxKwdQwpRPfBVoo84zUFzCXlgQYPzSKBIb0I/s640/blogger-image-1489792635.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVUdNdA7dWzeepiEAVlI-O884BTrM8_pBDfqkd4OKxy00LPCxSEIh3ivryOTAVQgtVS8QBgNe-XSE6t-tHmcPhnJHxEHnlp6IVT3sQKo-rxKwdQwpRPfBVoo84zUFzCXlgQYPzSKBIb0I/s640/blogger-image-1489792635.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This is a shot of Lamorna: </div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1XO9tAS6qXzMNRMaOztTkmmS8FItrkkN7H9hIGK_Z21ZHiuEy1C7Z6H9MYFAZFUZgw-wBGIWJw33PLZ_SBzW2DxKpzQKl7-66SJAYtowX0adpRAx2gLMJqpxak3z2_VCbphiUf33fDLM/s640/blogger-image-509149813.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1XO9tAS6qXzMNRMaOztTkmmS8FItrkkN7H9hIGK_Z21ZHiuEy1C7Z6H9MYFAZFUZgw-wBGIWJw33PLZ_SBzW2DxKpzQKl7-66SJAYtowX0adpRAx2gLMJqpxak3z2_VCbphiUf33fDLM/s640/blogger-image-509149813.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-38322007566304621032013-07-10T10:00:00.001-07:002013-07-10T10:00:52.515-07:00Ten colour separationsJust finished my first ever large 10 colour relief print on Thai Three Flakes Paper. It was a new challenge. One of the advantages of working from home is that as each colour dries I could get on with neglected domestic chores - I averaged about two colours a day - it has made me recollect the time I started printing in December 2009. For several years I worked on one or two colours striving to perfect that. In summer 2011 I made my first three colour mini prints and worked for a year on that. In 2013 I did my first 5 colour print. Now I am starting to have ambitions to work in multiple colours to produce larger prints. Printing is such a satisfying and intriguing process, you make a mistake and it sets you off in a totally new direction. It brings together the technical and creative. It demonstrates two of my favourite things - art and design. <br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxw1k4TcMtZCZ-aHxBgbz9bxSDyJFEz22ZHTsSys1il-WbbJ_FOdfrnbQzo9Ku6cKycCfUdUJq4oe6XUDjjqvE354cERhoziVd1deci77jx-MA3GxphTypI5NJ8XtuC_YeeEsCOTcwDQQ/s640/blogger-image--466727644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxw1k4TcMtZCZ-aHxBgbz9bxSDyJFEz22ZHTsSys1il-WbbJ_FOdfrnbQzo9Ku6cKycCfUdUJq4oe6XUDjjqvE354cERhoziVd1deci77jx-MA3GxphTypI5NJ8XtuC_YeeEsCOTcwDQQ/s640/blogger-image--466727644.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-a5CNAf5-IFpw1UPSiR1RHuahEVFeIEXQiMRMtoMcaR7z7iiLoMjq82w0mxzuLkTBM3enq3DJ-yDyATbH9oLbY82OD2LFIdvCXvjO_kT22Zc-Qf3rGDBA0SQSgC0ILUvWh-vthLUSMFE/s640/blogger-image-489683766.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-a5CNAf5-IFpw1UPSiR1RHuahEVFeIEXQiMRMtoMcaR7z7iiLoMjq82w0mxzuLkTBM3enq3DJ-yDyATbH9oLbY82OD2LFIdvCXvjO_kT22Zc-Qf3rGDBA0SQSgC0ILUvWh-vthLUSMFE/s640/blogger-image-489683766.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-47966874062061725632013-07-04T13:06:00.001-07:002013-07-04T13:06:53.537-07:00Overprinting Colours on GampiSpent most of the day working on a relief print based on an enlarged drawing from my tiny Moleskine watercolour sketchbook which a blew up on a photocopier and then cut out the elements in foam and styrofoam. I started by cutting out the separate colour elements for the print in foam or styrofoam. Using the master drawing to register each coloured element, I printed each colour using water based inks by hand applying pressure with a roller The print isn't quite finished yet and will probably include up to 9 colour separations which will be the most I have ever used in one design..<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6msbdm99-RKChIIezSxfxuiF8qgm0-72lYo0ZJsHx_6QeWk7vbegyXgCLFUkktpk7J__fHGtinMJY2tIS2vWZLOS6PY9-P3hyphenhyphenouxEQuFHIguLGt4TtHRzrec-_HMPzABkXCdiwWwa0dc/s640/blogger-image-1447331434.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6msbdm99-RKChIIezSxfxuiF8qgm0-72lYo0ZJsHx_6QeWk7vbegyXgCLFUkktpk7J__fHGtinMJY2tIS2vWZLOS6PY9-P3hyphenhyphenouxEQuFHIguLGt4TtHRzrec-_HMPzABkXCdiwWwa0dc/s640/blogger-image-1447331434.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMMdetW44f4C-NnLPOhaVpd3ngib2mDPLrfps2WAov7hyFSjdJ5RJRecHFZk-FWmBEsyDPnSa0m9T55JyFASGcyOt7yFWIykRuf_ryF6SSiqB-_cxPH4fz0Asv7EZSsijyBi5j4TX62pE/s640/blogger-image--462041527.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMMdetW44f4C-NnLPOhaVpd3ngib2mDPLrfps2WAov7hyFSjdJ5RJRecHFZk-FWmBEsyDPnSa0m9T55JyFASGcyOt7yFWIykRuf_ryF6SSiqB-_cxPH4fz0Asv7EZSsijyBi5j4TX62pE/s640/blogger-image--462041527.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ZJP2WtbdLG10RapfgV2kixHOxhU0k4ck_kqvmYaEPSqWv3Pb1ae8AUeb4UV41cGJIfwwPDpgfTjKw5MNFnbCdrGFCOG8F48aa6zNCL-WdvzQcSGVwPMqPFZukQgt72_mtqFtNWQ5y6E/s640/blogger-image-1226477329.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ZJP2WtbdLG10RapfgV2kixHOxhU0k4ck_kqvmYaEPSqWv3Pb1ae8AUeb4UV41cGJIfwwPDpgfTjKw5MNFnbCdrGFCOG8F48aa6zNCL-WdvzQcSGVwPMqPFZukQgt72_mtqFtNWQ5y6E/s640/blogger-image-1226477329.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div><br></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-59958407705178985172013-06-24T08:04:00.001-07:002013-06-24T08:04:36.689-07:00Washi Paper Inspiration - John Purcell PaperLast week I spent two days printing in Artichoke Print, Brixton - part of a residency prize that I won last year in the Printmakers Council 8th British International Mini Print. I had a brilliant time working on the large Rochet Etching Presses and watching other more experienced printmakers at work. (In the coming months I will be posting more about Artichoke) <div>At the end of the second day I walked into Brixton to visit John Purcell Paper - I could only spend half an hour there so I asked to see Tissues and Washi papers suitable for Chine Colle and Relief Printing. The sample books were amazing and it would take a lifetime to understand the complexity and variety of specialist papers and what they can be used for. I quickly settled on two hand made exquisite papers: some Japanese Kitakata 30gsm and some Thai 3 Flakes 70gsm. As soon as I got home I started to work on a large relief print version of Tree & Spotted Deer using funky foam, and quick print foam with hand cut stencils testing out the paper : </div><div><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTHdmE6E3ltJA3b3LNNb_JeoEv_bmH2RW2DnPcbydeirB-T_4LAk3OEb9UUbxleonfiQMmy2ECRvKWDXwN5PDgMYteNy906L6tDW-oWSoI77Fgziyt-gzJXB7CnieYD-aI_PxW02ojK4o/s640/blogger-image--1753268495.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTHdmE6E3ltJA3b3LNNb_JeoEv_bmH2RW2DnPcbydeirB-T_4LAk3OEb9UUbxleonfiQMmy2ECRvKWDXwN5PDgMYteNy906L6tDW-oWSoI77Fgziyt-gzJXB7CnieYD-aI_PxW02ojK4o/s640/blogger-image--1753268495.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRr2EYgOQ9e1U5Hb6gcQxj-wW5imhkraDW0zoEHL0yHI96xLHu1ZsxU269KYAXaPndU4cnYPwGf8c45CY_-X-VP3wDhleMVb3Uwogj9-SnJEDvdRjPuJFQVN1jBLxZY8rBw11vopO-n4/s640/blogger-image-1571283237.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtRr2EYgOQ9e1U5Hb6gcQxj-wW5imhkraDW0zoEHL0yHI96xLHu1ZsxU269KYAXaPndU4cnYPwGf8c45CY_-X-VP3wDhleMVb3Uwogj9-SnJEDvdRjPuJFQVN1jBLxZY8rBw11vopO-n4/s640/blogger-image-1571283237.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmgCdJQVWPobn4bVF_BX0H6iLZiKBZrQHgRs0WqDJB9Fq1gf8b0xagnhB35DadashAKdhSmUwIZHTlLxLWuYZ54XanHQM6Q8u57yk7myyPGaqB7qnEkoO-9Ng5iivKaAqw-qB3j3NfOBg/s640/blogger-image-1407054865.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmgCdJQVWPobn4bVF_BX0H6iLZiKBZrQHgRs0WqDJB9Fq1gf8b0xagnhB35DadashAKdhSmUwIZHTlLxLWuYZ54XanHQM6Q8u57yk7myyPGaqB7qnEkoO-9Ng5iivKaAqw-qB3j3NfOBg/s640/blogger-image-1407054865.jpg"></a></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoe0CnJ6afi4GhAcTFNur3eklSXrpyctcEBHHCxxtryG_G1xNlT3qZ8i8a2wlNexjY-ME-rJAHG_J8gupHRuPh6aBp08_7GDlB65ZmRqvoWbPOFpEHYHbC43-kwPbFb7FCQzF_hdIBLto/s640/blogger-image-210385449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoe0CnJ6afi4GhAcTFNur3eklSXrpyctcEBHHCxxtryG_G1xNlT3qZ8i8a2wlNexjY-ME-rJAHG_J8gupHRuPh6aBp08_7GDlB65ZmRqvoWbPOFpEHYHbC43-kwPbFb7FCQzF_hdIBLto/s640/blogger-image-210385449.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-22678384807054800192013-06-17T11:46:00.001-07:002013-06-17T11:46:25.237-07:00Artichoke - preparing more plates This weekend I managed to work on my largest ever dry point plastic plate at 29cms x 39cms which I plan to work on during my upcoming trip to Artichoke Print in Brixton. <div>Inked up the plate and tried out some torn tissue to see how it might look. I also finished off the Tree and Spotted Deer plate by rubbing it with some 120g sand paper. I also used the sandpaper on the plastic plate and it will be interesting to see what results it will bring. </div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2QUVJVG0DlJInpLU6q-fKPbj9rPkPp3feIxl1AzNtRxX-VhT0zMYWSGuR3yre1Q_U505QXxKFAj_TM0Y7eSbul9ugRP0Vq0yuA9o6tG9QFX_K-kfofMqnptd-JZkfWyHykcgqV8zx2kM/s640/blogger-image-807832072.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2QUVJVG0DlJInpLU6q-fKPbj9rPkPp3feIxl1AzNtRxX-VhT0zMYWSGuR3yre1Q_U505QXxKFAj_TM0Y7eSbul9ugRP0Vq0yuA9o6tG9QFX_K-kfofMqnptd-JZkfWyHykcgqV8zx2kM/s640/blogger-image-807832072.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdQob3Uic3FY_qZGgUp4pbB4ThQvM3DjNxFg5h2fNvaA5j6y-cqPhepsos5KkDlo5XVzs8CpvgwZUniFnNvnMvOEk6qiJARm2gAp7ndI2AZoVTLTxfkXLy-Urez5ZwNeMazvkl1VXpa7g/s640/blogger-image-1082691530.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdQob3Uic3FY_qZGgUp4pbB4ThQvM3DjNxFg5h2fNvaA5j6y-cqPhepsos5KkDlo5XVzs8CpvgwZUniFnNvnMvOEk6qiJARm2gAp7ndI2AZoVTLTxfkXLy-Urez5ZwNeMazvkl1VXpa7g/s640/blogger-image-1082691530.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-17733980051339084552013-06-14T11:55:00.001-07:002013-06-14T11:55:40.895-07:00Tree with spotted deer<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Ie7XPLL48nhzoqquIpYjj23Dm9aacZApNRKGVprzvKpo1pkAGoDE1WgP-KY1YgqTQVWWZkgifQQktRNqjDHjskyriJkufm7ZmOjzP3ulHd8Msm9u_5Vl9VF81rNzCbA6la1lpcxTgjM/s640/blogger-image--1680503711.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6Ie7XPLL48nhzoqquIpYjj23Dm9aacZApNRKGVprzvKpo1pkAGoDE1WgP-KY1YgqTQVWWZkgifQQktRNqjDHjskyriJkufm7ZmOjzP3ulHd8Msm9u_5Vl9VF81rNzCbA6la1lpcxTgjM/s640/blogger-image--1680503711.jpg"></a></div>I have been working on a new dry point plate in preparation for my planned visit to Artichoke Print in Brixton next week. I have decided that I will focus on dry point plates and chine colle technique for a bit. For this composition I started with the drawing of the Falmouth Tree and added the spotted deer from my Lady Lever Tapestry drawings. I found some sandpaper and rubbed the plate with this to create the texture for the foliage on the tree. Pushed some ink into it to see how it might look.I am also planning a visit to Intaglio Printmaker in London to pick up some additional tools, ink and specialist papers.<br><br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_3o0hbGBYAeyh-M_HAuoWqzLMEsszAl4QaXJCdBbQABi1nTP7XHrsmyCn1FQKxtAqEmV80RhInfWT4DXePXZmHtpCcRBOQsWxBurXOX5TS5xYQMtJBWTAAompOdN8kSELlBBexfikouk/s640/blogger-image--1207922902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_3o0hbGBYAeyh-M_HAuoWqzLMEsszAl4QaXJCdBbQABi1nTP7XHrsmyCn1FQKxtAqEmV80RhInfWT4DXePXZmHtpCcRBOQsWxBurXOX5TS5xYQMtJBWTAAompOdN8kSELlBBexfikouk/s640/blogger-image--1207922902.jpg"></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-44137510038909916622013-06-08T08:30:00.001-07:002013-06-08T08:30:52.714-07:00Testing the plate with Ink<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXgSkV9_pkAkj7LHFy6ZG_R8PgotA6U9DkPtSEcLQXuIDfc4JHBWLpvIgqhr1h8ZqML1UoG8ORUgZEsGxSB0XL6tWDg_N_hqSADHKZB6LaR-tXR0Y8M5nyAC4saDCG1YEYrsojs80bZr8/s640/blogger-image-406502265.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXgSkV9_pkAkj7LHFy6ZG_R8PgotA6U9DkPtSEcLQXuIDfc4JHBWLpvIgqhr1h8ZqML1UoG8ORUgZEsGxSB0XL6tWDg_N_hqSADHKZB6LaR-tXR0Y8M5nyAC4saDCG1YEYrsojs80bZr8/s640/blogger-image-406502265.jpg"></a></div>This intaglio plate is nearly finished ready for printing and I wanted to see how it might ink up so tried it out with water based ink and took a few photos of the plate. I love the fact It's peculiar but teeming with life - I have spent hours scrutinising those tapestries it has been a really enjoyable experience and I hope it results in a flurry of printmaking and other creative stuff. <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_Syl-KI_AC8fCBf6mRjNPgREMon6bZ4XmI9PZJatYNinkZr4yTfR_IXxJNJaHpBnwZSvGDfHHGokiBiOj0YeVHohN-EoOxYrlPbZulVqNcZ473mVpc-4DSEYeyt2Rb7Z-El05sUgEc8/s640/blogger-image--1681028827.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-_Syl-KI_AC8fCBf6mRjNPgREMon6bZ4XmI9PZJatYNinkZr4yTfR_IXxJNJaHpBnwZSvGDfHHGokiBiOj0YeVHohN-EoOxYrlPbZulVqNcZ473mVpc-4DSEYeyt2Rb7Z-El05sUgEc8/s640/blogger-image--1681028827.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWYQxkiVHu3f5VaMmpEQ_ZE3rYZWsngF9CRSnmyCql-ihogOcUyhG229TtkuS_lkmIg7ISI4UWGFVOynutmyLPavX-bZg5UpbedbD1_YBCxKiaUPCTbgFKD731Hx-TU6qibUNKSKFLCuc/s640/blogger-image--458131184.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWYQxkiVHu3f5VaMmpEQ_ZE3rYZWsngF9CRSnmyCql-ihogOcUyhG229TtkuS_lkmIg7ISI4UWGFVOynutmyLPavX-bZg5UpbedbD1_YBCxKiaUPCTbgFKD731Hx-TU6qibUNKSKFLCuc/s640/blogger-image--458131184.jpg" /></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1421290144709419333.post-42706049786286517162013-06-04T13:01:00.001-07:002013-06-04T13:01:02.995-07:00Intaglio printing at BluecoatIt's been ages since I have managed to get over to use the etching press at the Bluecoat but returned there today and had a productive time printing dry point metal & plastic plates on cream<br />

This time we stayed in a one bedroomed cottage in St Erth which is a village about 5 miles from St Ives. This was a different kind of holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Managed to do a few little country walks, noticing things along the way including Major the shetland pony in his buttercup field, cowslips and these vivid blue flowers growing in the churchyard in St Erth. <br />

So far over 25 faculty members - staff & students have submitted up to 80 postcards. 40 of the cards have been kindly donated by the artists for charity auction in aid of Mind & the Samaritans on the 13th of June at 1.30 in Pavilion, College Rd, Stoke on Trent. Here are some of the submissions, designing the poster tomorrow. <div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8EN_FgZdOFj26VNDxxba6VOTwaDKzJMSYRSrGfeJbiMo7o924gSNM6h53MyC0CIUlY6OMkqUb5Va7ZgyLgEmQb9m6-Jm-JOIW-I3_X_Eaz5GbFB4-i7s3BgAJcuPAJabVrJctBBG74w/s640/blogger-image--2102997341.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhA8EN_FgZdOFj26VNDxxba6VOTwaDKzJMSYRSrGfeJbiMo7o924gSNM6h53MyC0CIUlY6OMkqUb5Va7ZgyLgEmQb9m6-Jm-JOIW-I3_X_Eaz5GbFB4-i7s3BgAJcuPAJabVrJctBBG74w/s640/blogger-image--2102997341.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIYtXf7HZCRp9b9Zamcsvgi-JeriaXxbPYbinw53gx57HYfBUd4LRPe1wCTImSP_r4Ju0qRUmmn9S0yQ_W9JOqnCizHYcgWz3jgaYNtEPbFOfmScdmcW1197LGcYrTkeqrhMUL4Xa21fk/s640/blogger-image-205626702.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIYtXf7HZCRp9b9Zamcsvgi-JeriaXxbPYbinw53gx57HYfBUd4LRPe1wCTImSP_r4Ju0qRUmmn9S0yQ_W9JOqnCizHYcgWz3jgaYNtEPbFOfmScdmcW1197LGcYrTkeqrhMUL4Xa21fk/s640/blogger-image-205626702.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ1BrYqjh7rryCD7TCx0twv31SPHZHrSzj9yZCkKkxr4ZOlOfliF47draiv6XS8UGYlp5W-k1rDSoFpdJ3sVzMxF6ZMiBlfSM6xOpTvzt4u4otGHihnj8v0xoWUMsHs-3SyfTp5_yh-7w/s640/blogger-image-271007687.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ1BrYqjh7rryCD7TCx0twv31SPHZHrSzj9yZCkKkxr4ZOlOfliF47draiv6XS8UGYlp5W-k1rDSoFpdJ3sVzMxF6ZMiBlfSM6xOpTvzt4u4otGHihnj8v0xoWUMsHs-3SyfTp5_yh-7w/s640/blogger-image-271007687.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJQy1OPaZpFV7COskf72L8kJ_nHOIvd_DlZWVN73tQAt20AAchIk4B57qFKQHbchklcX55hAancuwIYmBKIEqPMuiKvhz8G_7Hy_UfQi6jET-C7OKEcZIaviBxi_2U9QYm5CJWqPoAtU8/s640/blogger-image--760927596.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJQy1OPaZpFV7COskf72L8kJ_nHOIvd_DlZWVN73tQAt20AAchIk4B57qFKQHbchklcX55hAancuwIYmBKIEqPMuiKvhz8G_7Hy_UfQi6jET-C7OKEcZIaviBxi_2U9QYm5CJWqPoAtU8/s640/blogger-image--760927596.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBRqYtyidNNxHwZfW07C3lfe77FY0gP1iNLW-rjAsChl6FAmrFmARdEB_38qeF2fAo1RevuCjAauO0fMplcHjEitxzxp469OTD0aYhT_8OxEfTIys-XoqjLZf0y97dV0_2wJibpa6oTKc/s640/blogger-image-1677717212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBRqYtyidNNxHwZfW07C3lfe77FY0gP1iNLW-rjAsChl6FAmrFmARdEB_38qeF2fAo1RevuCjAauO0fMplcHjEitxzxp469OTD0aYhT_8OxEfTIys-XoqjLZf0y97dV0_2wJibpa6oTKc/s640/blogger-image-1677717212.jpg" /></a></div>Laura Weston Arthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16073740405843589838noreply@blogger.com1
