An all time old art skool classic thing for drawing in colour is this Dr P h Martins Ink. An incredibly stylish and delightful brand of ink it was beloved of Andy Warhol during his early days as an illustrator. - It is so vibrant and it can be thinned out to go further with water but keep images out of the sun as it is prone to fade - perfect for working in a sketchbook though. If the budget does not stretch to this then I would reach for the food coloring as a cheap alternative.
