Butterfly Design Mix

I was encouraged last week by Rosemary on the fifth floor of Flaxman at Staffordshire University to do a butterfly print. By co-incidence I had done several thumbnail sketches after visits with Max and Ted to the fantastic Butterfly house in Chester Zoo. The Butterflies there are huge - all sorts of shapes and colours. They flap around from flower to flower sipping. I Really enjoyed carving this one - I know it draws strong style influences from a role call of creative pioneers: - Birkenheads own Della Robbia Pottery, the inspirational British textile designer Lucienne Day.
